Kodama - "Protectors of the Forest"

To those who have watched Princess Mononoke, made by a Hayao Miyazaki, you may have seen a creature that appeared to be small, white humanoids with a heads similar to bobble heads. Those are called "Kodama" in Japanese folklore.

Kodama is an old Japanese belief of a spirit that lives in trees. It also called as "protectors of the forest" for whoever cuts down the trees they live in will gain a curse. If trees reached 100 years old it is said to form into a kodama itself. They may  be close to another Japanese folkore called "Yokai",a supernatural monster which brings good fortune to those who encounters them. They are said to produce sounds as the deed of this kind of spirit.

It may be just a myth or a folklore, but the lesson here is that cutting trees can harm others. It may not be the kodamas but it maybe the animals that lives in it or those who benefits from it or it also harms us humans for we need it the same way they do.
